STABAT MATER

STABAT MATER is a reflective exploration on the suffering of Holy Mary during Christ’s crucifixion. In this project, ELECTRIO brings together voice, guitar, and electronics to offer a fresh perspective on this narrative. Drawing from Marco Rosano’s work, they recreate a Stabat Mater by reinterpreting pieces from Dowland and Monteverdi that convey the theme of mortality symbolically and poetically. The electronic elements consist of a range of noises and sounds seamlessly interwoven from the first to the last song through shared elements. These include aggressive and occasionally unsettling sounds, harmonizing with a pure and crystalline voice to reconstruct this prayer. Metaphorically linking the holy mother to Mother Earth, their prayer extends to our planet, with the hope that it remains unharmed. The aspiration is embedded in rein- terpreting Baroque pieces, crafted over 400 years ago, now rearranged in a modern context and performed today. In this musical odyssey, they seek to communicate the timeless essence of music and articulate their fervent wish for it to be more than just the exclusive enduring legacy on this planet.

ELECTRIO

ELECTRIO is an ensemble exploring crossover music, blending elements of baroque, electronic and contemporary styles. By combining the sweet, expressive sonority of the voice and the clear, crystalline tones of the guitar with the rich, multicolored textures of the electronics, they create a distinctive and innovative sound.

The ensemble seeks to bridge the gap between classical and contemporary music, offering a fresh and unconventional approach to performance.

The ensemble made their debut at MENGI (Reykjavík, Iceland) in 2022 with their project STABAT MATER. Since then, they have performed at various venues in Denmark and Iceland, most recently at the Norðurljós Concert Hall in Harpa, Reykjavík, in October 2024 as part of the Sunday Classics concert series. In 2023, they received the Klima Klang Festival Award, which led to a performance at KoncertKirken in Copenhagen, followed by a concert at the historic Radiohuset in the same city.

The ensemble consists of guitarist Francesco Rista, electroacoustic composer Simone Giordano, and soprano Sandra Lind Þorsteinsdóttir. Their debut album, STABAT MATER, is set for release in 2025.
